October 7, 1947 – June 12, 2025
Larry Ray Sawyer, 77, of Harrison, AR, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville, AR with his family by his side. He was born October 7, 1947 in Waterloo, IA to Ray and Ardys Sawyer, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Joel Noble.
As a child, Larry's family moved to Los Angeles, CA where he graduated high school. After graduation he moved back to Iowa for several years. While there he worked at a meat packing plant, a bakery, did construction, and spent time with his two daughters before moving to Harrison. In Harrison, Larry worked at NAMC as a surgical tech trainee. The hospital is where he met his wife Jimmie Sue, and they enjoyed 40 beautiful years of marriage. After leaving the hospital, he attended truck driving school with Jimmie Sue driving coast to coast. Larry owned and managed a small trucking company for several years. Under Larry's direction Sawyer Transport facilitated, and Larry transported the first linehaul movements for FedEx Ground from Harrison to Memphis. This contract continued for several years until his retirement.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, 4-wheeling, and motorcycling. Larry attended and was a member of Woodland Church for 38 years. Larry loved his family, and he loved the lord.
Larry is survived by his wife, Jimmie Sue, of Harrison, AR; one brother, Ronnie and wife Sue Sawyer of Denver, IA; daughters, Dawn and husband Phil Powers, Monica and husband Jim Erwin; stepdaughter, Beth Leal and partner Danny Phillips, grandchildren, Kimberly and husband Danny Comegys, Stephanie and husband Cameron Harris, Amelia Powers, Jacob Erwin, Macie Erwin, William Erwin; step grandchildren, Amanda and Michael Williams, Cory Leal and fiancé Mia Vaughn; 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that will miss him dearly.
A funeral service and visitation will be held on Monday, June 16th, 2025, at Woodland Church, (1001 Gibson Road) in Harrison. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Pastor Heath Kirkpatrick will officiate, and burial will take place at Bellefonte Cemetery under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison.
Larry was an active supporter and fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, c/o Beth Leal, 3111 N. Pyrite Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72704.
