Obituary

Kenneth Ivon Young, age 92 of the Rally Hill Community went home to be with his Savior on January 5, 2023, in his home, in his recliner.

The son of Ernest and Hattie Milum Young, he was born July 21, 1930 at Pyatt, Arkansas.  A life- long resident of Marion and Boone counties Kenneth spent over 30 years as an educator – leaving a lasting impression on many young minds. He was an advocate for many students that might never have finished school without his help.

He married his high school sweetheart Juanita on June 7, 1951. They celebrated their 68 th anniversary together before her death. They spent many hours working together on the farms that they owned.

Kenneth graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1948 and later returned there to teach for 28 years.  Kenneth obtained a master's degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Arkansas.  His love for agricultural carried over outside the classroom – he raised registered hogs for many years that were known across the country for their quality and performance.   He later developed an interest in the Angus cattle industry and purchased and bred outstanding blood lines and took great pride in the cattle he produced.

Kenneth was raised by a family that owned and valued land.  He acquired two excellent farms during his life that he took great pride in and it was his desire that the land be handed down to his heirs as his families' land had been handed down to him. Kenneth would tell you that he was a blessed man, he knew that God had blessed his life with the opportunity to teach and take care of the land. He always taught us, "Don't sell land, they're not making any more of it".  When health prevented him from being able to work, he became an excellent supervisor from the cab of the Ranger or the back deck.

He was a member of the Everton Baptist Church, but home was the little white church at Rally Hill where he taught Sunday School for the adults for many years.  When his health forced him to be home- bound he became a self-taught scholar in biblical prophecy and was always glad to share his knowledge.

He was a long- time board member of the Boone County Farm Bureau, where he was very active in state and local issues. Kenneth and Juanita served on the Farm Bureau board together, made many friends throughout the state and traveled with them to national conferences, always coming home with fun stories to share.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Juanita (Barger) Young, his son Kenneth Bryan Young, his father Ernest (who passed away when Ken was 6 years old) and mother, Hattie Milum Young.  He was also preceded in death by his sister Mary (Bill) Swafford; brothers, George (Mabel) Young, Sam (June) Young, Bill Young and Eddie Young, his twin brother who passed away 3 weeks ago to date; niece, Penny Osborn; brother and sister in laws Ralph (Clara Faye) Barger and Howard (Sue) Barger.

He is survived by his daughter Beverly Taylor and son-in-law Rick Taylor, granddaughter Brittney Breedlove and his pride and joy great grandchildren Reid and Reese Breedlove. Also step grand- daughters Haley Pool (Jake) and Kayla Hall (J.W.) and step great grand-children Graham, Sawyer and Buck Pool and Lendon and Maverick Hall all of Longview, Texas; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Young of Harrison, many nieces, one nephew and a host of friends throughout the local area and state.

Funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Monday, January 9, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison with Bro. Ray Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery in Pyatt.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 8 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Valley Springs School Foundation in his memory.  Four generations of this family have or are attending school at Valley. He truly loved this school and all it continues to stand for.

Special thanks to his care giver Nichole Hern and her family, you have truly been a blessing to his life. Many thanks to Joe Hefley, a longtime friend that continued to visit and call when it wasn't easy to see the changes that were happening in his life.

Pallbearers are Terry Young, Dusty Breedlove, Reid Breedlove, Gus Erby, Joe Hefley, Randy Hefley, Thanh Ketcham and Ronnie Robison.
