Obituary

Joyce Marie Carter, age 63 of Jasper, Arkansas passed away Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Hospice House in Harrison, Arkansas.

The daughter of Walter and Elma Roberts, she was born October 19, 1945 in Whittier, California.

Joyce graduated from Gilman City High School. After graduation she moved to Kansas City, where she met James Kenneth Carter and later they married. They made their home in the towns of Harrison and Jasper, Arkansas. Joyce attended the Deer Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was the first certified Opthamalic Technician in the state of Arkansas working in that field for approximately 22 years. In 1992 they started their own business, Lookout Mountain Log Cabins, and successfully operated their cabins for 15 years. Making lots of friends from all over the country because of her friendly personality and loving ways.

Joyce had a sincere love of nature, animals and the environment. She was a loyal wife, a great mom, "nana", and a true friend. She led a life that was full of diverse fun and variety. She did a little drag racing in her younger days, loved to shop with friends and family, spend time with grandkids and her husband, vacationing in Colorado, snowmobiling, horseback riding, 4 wheeling the back roads of Newton County, bicycling and traveling to many different states to watch their daughter and granddaughter play basketball, volleyball and softball, these were just a few ways she enjoyed living.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bertie Bates.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Jim Carter of the home; a daughter, Janet Carol Webb and her husband, PR of Harrison; a son, Kenneth Wayne Carter of Branson, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jacinda Marie Webb, Tucker Elizabeth Webb, and Nick, Jamie, and Brandon Carter; two brothers, Don Roberts and his wife, Jean of Rogers, Arkansas and Dennis Roberts and his wife, Darlene of Birmingham, Iowa; and a sister, Bonnie Plumb of Chillicothe, Missouri. She had many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation is from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper. Funeral service is 10 A.M. Friday, February 27, 2009 at funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Cowell Cemetery.
