John R. Wheeler, age 85 of Western Grove, Arkansas passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Hospice of the Hills Hospice House in Harrison, Arkansas.

The son of Joseph Mitchell and Nellie Angeline (McDougal) Wheeler, he was born December 15, 1923 at Yardell, Arkansas.

John lived in this area most of his life, except the 13 years he lived in Wichita, Kansas. He enjoyed playing the guitar with friends, working in the yard and playing with his great-grandchildren. He worked for Claridge for many years, before his retirement.

His parents preceded him in death, along with his wife, Lois Wheeler, who passed away February 2009; one brother; and three sisters.

Survivors are his children, Johnny Wheeler and his wife, Glenda of Hasty, Terry Wheeler of Western Grove, Barbara Martin and her husband, Verl Ray of Everton, Deanna Colston of Harrison, and Teresa Stuart of Western Grove; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation was be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Service was Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the funeral home chapel with Eddie Reed officiating. Burial followed in Sand Hill Cemetery with pallbearers being Greg Fuller, Kevin Wheeler, Zach Wheeler, Brandon Stuart, Jerry Kilburn, and Jeff Mason. Honorary pallbearers were his special friend, John Lee, Dawn Whiteside, Linda Collins, Jewell Ferrari, and other staff members of Hospice of the Hills and the Hospice House.
