John C. "J.C." Stuckey, of Harrison, Arkansas passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper, Arkansas at the age of 83.
The son of John C. Stuckey, Sr., and Velma Ora (Gass) Stuckey was born September 16, 1932 at Harrison, Arkansas.
He attended school at Harrison and worked at the Lyric Theater as a teen. His military career began with his enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1950. During his first enlistment, he served in the Korean War as a field radio operator. He re-enlisted in the marines to continue his military service and in 1955 married Doris Jean (Cantrell) Stuckey. He left the Marine Corp in 1960 and joined the US Army to serve another 7 years of active duty, including a tour in Vietnam, where he was a Communication Chief. He retired from active duty in 1967 and made the transition to the Army Reserve, where he served until September of 1992 with a rank of First Sergeant, E-8. He received many medals and commendations during his time in the service.
While in the military, he also began to preach in his 20's. He continued his Bible studies and received a Doctorate in Theology January 16, 1970 from National Christian University in Arlington, Texas. He spent many years serving as Chaplin at the DAV and also in Corpus Christi, Texas. He officiated countless weddings, funerals, baptisms, and counseling sessions. He preached at many churches across the U.S. and in Arkansas, including Alpena, Green Forest, Berryville, and up until 2 months before his passing, he was actively preaching at Gaither Church of Christ.
In the 1990's he served a term as Alderman with the city of Green Forest and owned and operated Stuckey Realty for many years before his retirement.
J.C. was a rock in many people's lives and the communities he served. He was a great influence and was always willing to listen and give to those in need, always generous and honest to a fault. He loved his vegetable garden and to travel with his wife in their RV before her passing in 2013. He never stopped studying the Bible, as it was the foundation of his life. He always put God first and his family was his next priority.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris of 58 years, his twin sister, Joan Hill and sisters, Ora B. Morris and Kathleen Flippo.
J.C. is survived by his two daughters, Vickie Drain and husband Jeffrey of Harrison and Debbie Roy and husband Rob of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Christine Roy, Heather Murray and husband Joe, Allison Launius and husband Bryan and Stephen Drain; four great grandchildren, John Launius and Gabriel, Nathaniel and Nicholas Murray; his sister, Freda Cole and husband Bill of Harrison; and brother-in-law, Bill Hill of Leon, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him and will mourn his passing.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison. Private burial will be held at a later date at Gass Cemetery.
