John "Jack" George
Pable
March 25, 1932 – May 17, 2026
John "Jack" George Pable, a man whose life was marked by steadfast dedication, quiet strength, and a profound love for family and community, passed away on May 17, 2026, in Harrison, Arkansas. Born on March 25, 1932, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Jack’s journey was one woven with hard work, loyalty, and a meticulous attention to detail that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
In his formative years, Jack carved out a path as an auto mechanic, mastering the intricate mechanics of machines with precision and care. His commitment to service extended into his military tenure, where he answered the call of duty with honor. He joined the Army National Guard of the United States and Wisconsin in 1950, serving until 1952, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Stationed in the harsh environs of Thule, Greenland, during the Korean War, Jack specialized as a heating expert, ensuring warmth and comfort in the most challenging conditions until his honorable discharge in December 1955.
Jack’s career later found him deeply rooted in the community of Des Plaines, Illinois, where he served as Head Custodian for the Des Plaines School District. His many years of dedicated work earned him a Recognition for Educational Support from School District 62, a testament to the pride he took in his responsibilities and the impact he had on those around him.
After moving to Harrison, Arkansas, twenty-eight years ago, Jack recently became a member at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church. There, among his faith community, he nurtured relationships grounded in kindness and respect. Local restaurants often found him calmly sipping coffee at the counter, a steady presence who appreciated the simple joy of belonging and connection.
Jack was a man who embraced life’s pleasures with a quiet enthusiasm. His earlier years were filled with spirited bowling matches alongside his brothers. Cards, especially the game of Sheepshead, provided joyful competition shared with his wife Sylvia and parents. Golf offered him peaceful reflection, while family gatherings brought laughter and camaraderie through games like Croquet, Aggravation, and Wii bowling. His love for family was further expressed through treasured picnics at Union Grove, Wisconsin, where badminton flights were chased under open skies.
The cornerstone of Jack’s life was his marriage to Sylvia Flanders, the love of his life, whom he married on October 19, 1957. Together, they shared 68 years of partnership, filled with mutual respect, shared interests, and deep affection until her passing on May 31, 2025. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and companionship.
Jack was meticulous in his daily routines and took immense pride in the work and contributions he made throughout his life. His generosity extended beyond his immediate circles, as he proudly supported Disabled Veterans and Boys Town, reflecting a heart that cared deeply for others.
He leaves behind a loving family who cherish his memory: daughters Debra (Alan) Kois, Sandra (Mark) Pable, and Jacqueline (John) Mundie; grandchildren Brandi (Matt) Warnock, Nicole (Chris) Kramer, John (Ana) Kois, Katherine (Ray) Moseley, Joseph Kois, Ryan (Marley) Mundie, and Kyle (Hunter) Mundie; and a growing number of great-grandchildren—Logan, Ava, Aubrey, Kensie, Bella, Scarlett, Cayden, Roman, Fern, Sylvie-Kate, Lennox, and a great-granddaughter eagerly awaited in August of 2026. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends who felt the warmth of his presence.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sylvia; parents Joseph and Sophie Pable; brothers, Raymond, Robert, and Richard Pable; and sister Joanne Miller.
A private family service will be held on a later date at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Rockford, Illinois. Father Carl Beekman will officiate. Honorary pallbearers include John Kois, Joseph Kois, Ryan Mundie, and Kyle Mundie. John and Sylvia will be laid to rest at Maine Township Cemetery in Park Ridge, Illinois.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hillcrest Home, including the nurses, nurse practitioners, CNA's, caregivers and volunteers for their kindness and care.
