IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Louis
Martin
September 26, 1932 – April 15, 2023
John Louis Martin, 90 of Yellville, AR passed away April 15, 2023. He was born September 26, 1932 in Bushong, KS, and was one of eight children to Louis Earl Martin and Lula Alice (Adolph).
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Margaret Susan Skinner; sister, Wanda (Jeannie) Gravatt of Indiana; daughters Donna Lyons and Rebecca Renaud, as well as many grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth Ann Bilyeu (mother to his children); daughters Rhonda Leslie, and Janice Short; sons Stephen Martin and John L. Martin II; siblings Reva Baumgardner, Ralph Martin, Laveda Horst, Loretta (Lavina) Shaffstall, Mary Blankley, and Betty Browning Carter.
John enlisted into the U.S. Army and completed basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He served for 3 years and with time in the Korean War as a gunner on the Browning automatic rifle.
While raising his six children in Kansas City, KS, John sustained a small farm with fields of corn, cattle, chickens, and horses. He grew much of the family's fresh foods they consumed.
John was a heavy equipment operator for the Victor L Phillips Company out of Kansas City, MO, and later Joplin, MO. He continued in this line of work throughout the 80s and 90s for the Case Power & Equipment Company in Mesquite, TX where he officially retired from the corporate world. Retirement didn't last long for John, because shortly afterwards, he and his wife Sue moved from Texas to Arkansas where he began working for himself repairing and restoring heavy equipment machinery. John was meticulous in everything he did. If you wanted it done right, you would get John to do it.
John's most memorable times were spent socializing with his brother and sisters at their family property referred to as "Martin's Lake" in Allen, KS. Here everyone would hang out and listen to his siblings play guitar and sing,
Burial will take place at Highlandville Cemetery, Highlandville, MO.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison, Arkansas.
