IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jim
Shettles
September 30, 1935 – March 27, 2024
Jim Shettles went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in Harrison, AR at 88 years old. Jim was born on September 30, 1935 to Dave and Lula Shettles of New Albany, MS.
Jim was a veteran and served in the United States Navy as an airman stationed in Japan from 1954-1958. Jim's career was spent in transportation as a driver for Garrison Motor Freight, Smith Transfer and Walmart Transportation. Jim helped start Arkansas Freightways as the first Vice President of Safety. Jim's last 20 years of driving were for Walmart Transportation.
In retirement, Jim was a school bus driver and also drove the athletic bus for the Harrison School District. Jim loved driving the kids and sports teams and did so for several years.
Jim married Loretta Layton Fogerty on December 6, 1968 in Memphis, TN and moved to Harrison, Arkansas in 1973 to be close to Loretta's family members. Jim would often say, "I don't know what Loretta saw in me or why she has put up with me all of these years." Anyone who knew Jim understands the "what and why" of his questions, it was because Jim had a heart of gold and gave it freely to his loving wife, children, and countless friends and neighbors.
Jim was a man of strong faith and was an active member of Eagle Heights Baptist Church. Jim was a loving man and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jim's humble spirit willingly and quietly served multiple families in need in the Harrison area throughout his time here.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mildred Provence, and his two brothers, Austin Shettles and Billy Shettles. The surviving family include his wife, Loretta Shettles, his son, Billy Wayne Fogerty and his wife, Vickie, and his two daughters, Judy Fogerty Wendland and her husband, Jim and Carol Fogerty Borgstadt and her husband, Ted. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Brandon Fogerty and his wife, Lesha, Karah Fogerty Davenport and her husband, Casey, Clayton Etchison, Sam Borgstadt and his wife, Caroline, and Cole Borgstadt. Jim has four great grandchildren, Walker Fogerty, Arden Fogerty, Turner Davenport, and Oliver Davenport. Jim is also survived by one sister, Jean Duell, of Ball, Louisiana.
The funeral service will be held at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Eagle Heights Baptist Church or The Brandon Burlsworth Youth Center in Harrison, AR.
