Obituary

Onas "Jim" Granville Chaney, age 84 of Fayetteville, Arkansas formerly of Bear Creek Springs, Arkansas passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 in Fayetteville surrounded by family.

Jim was born September 1, 1928 in Bear Creek Springs, Arkansas to Granville and Nova (Blevins) Chaney. He split his time between Arkansas and Brownsville, Texas. Jim had many different vocations throughout life and was happiest while repairing vehicles. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for deer and turkey hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Milford "Buster" Chaney; and a son, Jason A. Sexton.

Survivors are his first wife, Doris Faye (Littleton) Chaney of Bear Creek Springs, Arkansas; his long time companion, Cheryl A. Sexton of Brownsville, Texas; daughters, Susan "Suzy" Mortimer and husband, Brian of Moxee, Washington, Robin Cranston of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Angela "Jill" Nelson and husband, Fred of Fayetteville, Arkansas; sons, Michael Chaney and wife, Brenda of Omaha, Arkansas and Jonathan Sexton and wife, Ashley of Brownsville, Texas; his brother, Norman "Dick" Chaney of Harrison, Arkansas; his sister, Ruth Gilbert and husband, Gay of Bear Creek Springs, Arkansas; grandchildren, David Cagle, Tara Cagle, Haley Tatum, Erin Layne, Jacob Cranston, Falon Chaney Thomas, Nathan Chaney, Keagan Chaney, Victoria Sexton, Nala Hernandez-Sexton, Crysta Hernandez-Sexton, and Maria-Elaina Hernandez-Sexton; 15 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Chris Ragland of Harrison, Arkansas; and many other family members and friends.

Visitation was Monday, May 20, 2013 with the service Tuesday, May 21, 2013 both at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison with The Rev. Suzanne Stoner officiating.

Burial followed in Gass Cemetery with pallbearers being David Cagle, Jacob Cranston, Chris Ragland, Leon Thomas, Nathan Chaney, and Keegan Chaney.

Honorary pallbearers were Roy H. Cope, Jr., Norman Neal Chaney, Gay Gilbert, James Cope, Gerald Gene Thomason, OB Chaney, and OD Chaney.

The family would like to send a special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses that have loved and cared for Jim the last years of his life, especially Dr. Stephen Hennigan and Dr. Michael Moulton.
