Jesse Smith Matlock, age 89 of Jasper, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper, Arkansas.
The son of Walter and Bertie (Hilger) Matlock was born January 5, 1923 at Omaha, Arkansas.
He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a School Teacher, Minister, and member of Grubb Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, E. Cupa (Langford) Matlock; three brothers; one sister; one brother-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Survivors are his children, Faye Savage and husband Johnny of Harrison, Richard Matlock and Sheila Villines of Jasper, Sherry Gregory and Shannon of Harrison, and Jessie Hancock of Harrison; grandchildren, Heather Laffoon, Stephanie Hudson, Shonna Cartwright, Jesse Clay Matlock, Sheila Siddal, Wesley Harding, Lynn Hickenbottom, Amy Burton, and Jennifer Noell; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He is survived by brothers-in-law, Claude Coberly of Ava, Missouri and Harold Lutz of Roseville, California; and a host of other family members.
Visitation was Friday, August 17, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.
Service was Saturday, August 18, 2012 at New Hope Baptist Church with Bro. Freddie Blevins officiating.
Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jimmy Justice and the staff of Newton County Nursing Home.
