Jerry R. Mathis, age 68 of Valley Springs, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.

The son of Ralph and Jean (Williams) Mathis was born August 24, 1946 in Harrison.

Jerry had worked for Claridge Products for 42 years and retired after 20 years with the Arkansas National Guard. He was a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association. He enjoyed woodworking and attending his grandchildren's basketball games and going to other school functions with them. He also enjoyed watching them show livestock. He was known as "Moodus" and loved to joke around with everyone. He never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Alma (Burr) Mathis of the home; children, Jim Mathis and wife Shylah of Everton, Shawna Cox of Everton and Kelli Melton of Harrison; brothers, Larry Mathis of Green Forest and Steve Mathis and wife Luana of Harrison; sister, Sherrilyn Henry and husband Don of Harrison; grandchildren, Nick and Delaney Cox and Kaitlynn Melton; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Services was Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Western Grove Bible Church with Dennis Sisco officiating.

Visitation was prior to the service.

Burial followed in Western Grove Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Memorial donations may be made to the Senior Center, Area Agency on Aging or to Coker-Heaton Cemetery Fund.
