Obituary

Jerome Moore, of Jasper, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Countryside at Rock Springs in Harrison. He was 89 years old.

The son of William Jerome and Lillian R. (Mulhausen) Moore, Jerome was born on September 17, 1936, in Houston, Texas.

Jerome graduated from Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas, where he was a member of the Senior Honor Society. He later attended the University of Texas completing 3 years of study. Jerome went on to enjoy a long and dedicated career as an engineer with the Texas Highway Department, where he worked for 32 years. Upon retirement, Jerome moved to Jasper, Arkansas where he found a wonderful community of friends and neighbors and enjoyed driving (fast!) through the mountains.

He proudly served his country as a member of the Texas Air National Guard from October 1958 until October 1964, during which time he earned the Air Defense Medal. He also volunteered as a civilian with the Coast Guard and other organizations during his lifetime.

Throughout his life, Jerome had a passion for antique sports cars and automobile racing. He was a co-organizer of the Boston Mountain Tour and was an accomplished competitor with the Sports Car Club of America, winning the Southwest Division in the A Production Class. His first racing victory came in 1961 at Bryan Air Force Base, beginning what would become a lifelong enthusiasm for sports cars and racing.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Dolphinious Moore; and a sister, Lillian Aneita (Moore) Camacho.

He is survived by his niece, Yvonne Camacho and nephew, Robert Camacho.

At Jerome’s request, no service will be held. He will be interred in the Moore family section of Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Jerome was a long-term supporter of Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (www.turpentinecreek.org) and any donations in his name would make his heart happy.
