Jearld Elbert Leo Smith, age 62 of Caney, Kansas, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday evening, January 5, 2013 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was surrounded by his family who all loved and will miss him.
He was born September 13, 1950 in Paris, Arkansas to Leo and Eathel (Lane) Smith.
Jearld was self-employed for many years and was part owner of a drilling company. Jearld was also member of the Living Faith Tabernacle in Coffeyville, Kansas.
He had many hobbies, such as fishing, working on cars - especially Corvettes, loved Harley Davidsons, but mainly he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jearld is survived by his son, Jeff Smith and wife Liz of Valley Springs, Arkansas; the mother of his son, Karen (Smith) Whitt of Harrison, Arkansas; his brother, Lewell "Wes" Smith and wife Tricia of Caney, Kansas; his sisters, Rhebeeda Thornton and husband Don of Caney, Kansas and Vertie Lebouef and husband Charlie of Abbeyville, Louisiana; grandchildren, Bradley and Holly Smith of Valley Springs, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by his companion of 4 years, Elaine Money of the home; his faithful dog, Buffy, who hardly left his side, went on many road trips with him and always got special treats of hamburgers from Sonic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.C. Smith; nephews, Eric Thornton and Howard "Hoppy" Dryer; and a niece, Tami Thornton Fleming.
There was open visitation Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.
Service was Friday, January 11, 2013 at Coffman Funeral Home, with Reverend Kevin Rogers officiating.
Burial followed in Maple Leaf Cemetery with pallbearers being Bradley Smith, Jeremy Smith, James Smith, and Karen Whitt. Honorary pallbearers are Maudie Kiplinger, Brittany Marshall, and Holly Smith.
