James Harland “Sonny” Kilgore, 55, of Low Gap, Arkansas, passed away March 21, 2026.

Sonny was born March 25, 1970, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Hillard and Jane (Villines) Kilgore. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County and loved the place he called home. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, and raising Mountain Cur dogs, and spent much of his time outdoors in the hills he knew so well.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hillard Kilgore; and his grandparents, Ray and Arbie (Henderson) Villines, and Gene Kilgore and Dolly (Wishon) Moulder.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Kilgore of Low Gap; his sister, Rosetta Kilgore Davidson (Ronnie) of Low Gap; two sons, Dylan Kilgore of Harrison and Zachary Kilgore of Gainesville, Texas; his niece, Brandi (Jessie) Edgmon of Mount Sherman; and his nephew, Nathan (Amanda) Waters of Osage.

Sonny’s life was not without its challenges, but those who knew him remember a time when he was quick to be a friend, full of life, and deeply connected to his family, his home and a Blessing to all who knew him.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper, Arkansas. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Low Gap Cemetery, with Rev. James Compton officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Kilgore, Zachary Kilgore, Jessie Edgmon, Ronnie Davidson, Kelvin House, Robert Edgmon, and Alan Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Villines and Dr. Dunaway and staff.
