James "Curly" Mefford, age 73 of Harrison, passed away at Prattsville Baptist Medical Center in Prattsville, Alabama on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009.

The son of Sam B. and Vergie L. (Hallum) Mefford, he was born December 28, 1935 at Jasper, Arkansas. He was a truck driver; a veteran of the U.S. Army; and a lifetime resident of this area.

"Curly" is known for his peddling produce in season and buying and selling metal. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and was a practical joker.

His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his companion, Mildred Poston of Harrison; a daughter, Vickie Rawlins and husband, Richard of Huntsville; Mildred's children,son Allen Rowe and wife, Debbie of Harrison, daughters and spouses, Linda and Gus Sander, of Florida, Brittanie and Jerry Harris of Harrison, and Brenda Anthony and Kurt Meier of Harrison; his brothers and spouses, Junior Mefford and Sue Stills of Harrison, Jack and Jackie Mefford of Jasper, and Billy and Pat Mefford of Oklahoma; his sisters, Wanda and husband, Veldon Swafford of Elm Springs, and Ruby Carter of Jasper; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday, October 12,2009 with service on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, both at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Burial followed in Jasper Cemetery with Bro. James Compton officiating.

Pallbearers were Travis Davidson, David Barr, Lyle Smith, John Martin, Bob Mathis and Jesse Waterland. Honorary pallbearers were Dean and Veldon Swafford, Paul Purdy, Jerry Harris, Gus Sander and Kurt Meier.
