IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Jim"
Mccammon
July 3, 1954 – May 12, 2019
James Edward "Jim" McCammon, 64 of Harrison, Arkansas passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Hospice of the Hills Hospice House.
The son of Donald James and Margurette (Hearn) McCammon was born July 3, 1954 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. His father was a Methodist Minister and his family lived in South Arkansas before moving to Harrison. Jim graduated from Harrison High School. He also attended college at University of Central Arkansas.
Jim was a dedicated fireman with the Harrison Fire Department, working his way through the ranks from fire fighter to officer. He created the fire inspection division and became Harrison's first Fire Inspector. He retired as Captain on January 31, 2007. During his time with HFD, he contributed to many special projects and served on several committees and associations. During his career, he received a Fire Safety Commendation Medal, Arkansas Fire Marshal's Association Lifetime Member for Outstanding Service and most recently, the HFD Training Tower was named in his honor in 2019.
He also spent a few years as pre-treatment coordinator for the City of Harrison and many summers working at Buffalo Outdoor Center and then Buffalo River Outfitters. One title that Jim cherished was crew chief for the Miss Arkansas balloon and the great adventures and relationships he experienced through ballooning.
After retiring from the fire department, he was Project Manager and Corporate Security Officer with Community First Bank. He was also active in the community, serving with the Harrison Chamber of Commerce for several years and working to develop bike trails.
Over the years, he was an advocate for firefighters and the profession. He had a big heart for people in need, always wanting to help as indicated by his high school nickname "Big Daddy".
Jim loved God and his family. He enjoyed canoeing and kayaking the Buffalo River and chasing hot air balloons. He was a true friend, with a humble spirit that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Donna Janice McCammon and his step-son, Brian Bardin.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mollie Ruth McCammon of Harrison; his son, Zachariah James McCammon and wife Jenni, and grandson, Aiden James McCammon all of Roswell, Georgia and step-grandsons, Zane Bardin and Jace Bardin and their mother, Tonya Sherburne all of Harrison; and his mother and father-in-law, Art and Tamara Raine of Harrison.
