James Lewis "Louie" Carter, of Jasper, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the age of 75.
The son of Fred Henry Carter and Arple Mae (Reddell) Carter was born June 21, 1948 in Vanduser, Missouri. He lived in Newton County most of his life and had worked for Flexsteel for many years. He married the love of his life, Rhonda Lea Hensley on April 5, 1985.
James was a proud US Army Veteran and had served his country during the Vietnam War. He fought for his country with honor and courage and fought his illness the same way and was determined to never give up.
Louie enjoyed treasure hunting on the river and as he got older, he developed a love for attending auctions. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family. He was a loving, gentle and reliable husband, father, brother, and friend. He was a charitable, humble man and strove to be helpful, no matter what.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Julice Fred Carter, Charles William Carter, Travis Vernon Carter, and Henry Hancel Carter; and a sister, Charlotta Mae Carter Campbell.
Louie is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rhonda Lea Carter; his daughter, Alexis Jamilee Carter of Denver, CO; sister, Ava Louella Carter of Harrison; sister-in-law, Betty Carter of Jasper; and brother-in-law, Robert Lee "Bud/Ace" Hensley of Marshall. He is also survived by four nephews, that he loved like sons, Lorne Campbell, Warren Campbell, Mike Carter, and Richard Carter; his Godson, Robbie Flud; a host of nieces, great nieces, great nephews, and many dear friends.
Funeral service will be at 2 PM, Friday, April 5 (2024) at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper with Pastors Steven Holt, Travis Holt, and Roy Ragland officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Smith Cemetery in Vendor.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper.
Pallbearers are Kenny Phillips, Robert "Ace" Hensley, Steven Martin, Robbie Flud, DJ Cross, and Jessy Cross.
Honorary pallbearers are Harold Collins, Joe Cross, Aubrey Criner, Billy Bowers, Euell Bowers, Hubert Bolin, and all Vietnam Vets.
