Howard T. Thurman, age 88 passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Creekside Health and Rehab in Yellville, Arkansas.
He was born on May 29, 1926, in Independence, Missouri the son of Jay and Phoebe Catherine (Phillips) Thurman.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 41 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a retired truck driver for Spector Red Ball Truck Line where he worked for over 26 years. He was a truck driver most of his life and very proud of the safety award he received for One Million Miles accident free driving. After retirement, he moved to Harrison, Arkansas and resided there until his passing. Howard was always busy, everyone referred to him as a "piddler". He was always building something, cutting wood, working on his old truck or helping others. He loved telling truck driving stories, watching old western movies and was a member of the Rusty Wheels Old Engine Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra (whom passed only 4 months ago); one son, James Patrick Thurman; a step son, Calvin David Anderson; 3 brothers; Jay, John and Donald Thurman; 4 sisters; Alice Handley, Stella May Barnum, Mary McDonald and Viola Lane.
He is survived by two daughters; Tammy and husband Garry Bundy of Harrison, Bonita and husband Gary Valentine of Western Grove; two sons: Michael and wife Linda Thurman of Urbana, Missouri; Scotty Thurman of Independence, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Virginia Thurman of Buckner, Missouri: fourteen grandchildren: seventeen great-grandchildren: three great-great grandchildren: a host of nieces and nephews that called him "Uncle Jebo": special friends and neighbors, Bill and Debbie Goens of Harrison, Arkansas: and a loving, caring staff a Creekside Health and Rehab and the Legacy Hospice staff.
Memorial service will be held at a later date
Cremation and arrangements by Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy Hospice of North Arkansas in Harrison.
