Howard James McCarville, age 93, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 at Arkansas State Veterans Home in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The son of George and Dorothy (Funk) McCarville was born March 29, 1930 in Martin, South Dakota. He was a resident of Harrison for 47 years, moving from McCook, Nebraska. He had been a long-time member of the Bear Creek Springs Baptist Church.
Howard was a Veteran of the US Marine Corp and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was active in the DAV and VFW. He retired from Harrison Schools after working over 20 years as a custodian and janitor.
Howard loved playing harmonica, making people laugh, fishing, and watching westerns. He never met a stranger and loved talking to people. He was an avid gardener with at least 2 green thumbs.
Howard loved his family and was very loving, caring, and devoted. He was always present for his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids activities. He loved the Lord and served his church faithfully until his health no longer permitted. He played his harmonica with the church choir and helped alongside his late wife with AWANA's.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Jean McCarville; and his 10 brothers and sisters.
Howard is survived by his five children, Rita (Jonathon) Cook, Patty (Rick) Rand, Andy McCarville, Dorothy (Mike) Unkel, and Mike (Kayla) McCarville; 15 grandkids, Jaime (Bobby) Tillery, A.J. (Mandy) McCarville, Dillon (Jewell) McCarville, Shelby Paige Angelow, Jessica (Buddy) Burke), Brittany (Gary) Mensch, Miranda McCarville, Shelby K. Bassham, Kaden McCarville, Andrew (Gwynyth) Unkel, Kasey Unkel, Preston Payne, Josh (Tegan) Rand, Jeremiah Rand, and Isaiah Rand; 18 great grandkids; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family that loved him and will miss him.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, A.J., Dillon, Preston, Josh, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Kaden, and Andrew.
