Harold Grinder, age 91, passed peacefully Monday, August 24, 2020 in Harrison and Wyauna June Grinder, age 90, passed peacefully exactly 7 weeks later on Monday, October 12, 2020 at home in Pindall. Harold was born December 23, 1928 at Silver Hill to Harve and Myrtle (DePriest) Grinder and June was born May 16, 1930 at St. Joe to Charley and Edith (Smithee) Wilson.
Harold grew up on the Buffalo River at the Grinder's Ferry location where his grandfather, Jim Grinder, operated the ferry crossing Buffalo River.
He was a US Navy veteran and served during the Korean war. He was a skilled woodworker and retired from J & H Custom Furniture. He was a hard worker, beef cattle farmer, avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. His family and the community enjoyed his garden produce especially his turnips. He was a selfless caring person who always put the needs of others before his own.
Harold married Wyauna June Wilson, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1952 in Reno, NV while he was stationed in the US Navy in San Francisco, CA. They lived in San Francisco until he was shipped out during the Korean War. They celebrated their 67 th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2020.
June greeted everyone she saw with a big smile and never met a stranger. She was known as an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for the people that she loved. She welcomed many people into her home for meals over the years. Her family meant the world to her. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who had the privilege to know her and will be missed beyond measure.
She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown and later, she worked at various clerical and sales jobs which she really enjoyed. She took care of her home and family until her very last days.
They were members of the Ozark Life UPC Church (formerly Pindall UPC Church) in Pindall, AR where Harold was a church deacon and June served as church secretary and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Harold and June were truly pillars of their community and so loved by many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Jack, Howard, Aaron and E.G. Grinder, and one sister, Marie (Grinder) Stills. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bob Wilson.
They are survived by a daughter Kaye (Don) Ardison; daughter Kathy (Jeff) Henthorne and son David (Katie) Grinder, all of Pindall; four grandchildren, Christy (Jason) Honeycutt, of Valley Springs; Brooke (Brett) Timm, of Jackson, WY; Ben (Lori) Henthorne, of Pindall; Alex (Caitlyn) Grinder, of Harrison; five great-grandchildren, Madelyn Honeycutt, Parker Honeycutt, Sawyer Henthorne, Madelon June Timm and Harper Grinder; Harold's brother, J.D. Grinder of St. Joe and host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, church family and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Ozark Life UPC Church in Pindall on Hwy 235. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service beginning at 10 AM. The service will be officiated by Bro. Doug Grinder, Bro. Jeremy Ellis and Bro. Rob Grinder. At the conclusion of the service, the family invites you to share your memories of Harold and June.
Immediately following the service, a private family graveside service will be held at Anderson Flat Cemetery.
