Graveside Service
York Cemetery
Starts at 2:00 pm (Central time)
Harold Dean Garrison, of Bergman, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at Hospice of the Hills. He was 83 years old.
The son of Ira and Georgia (Carlton) Garrison was born on February 25, 1943 in Murray, Arkansas.
He was a devoted family man, a skilled craftsman, and a dedicated community servant whose life reflected a deep commitment to both his work and his faith.
Harold served the Bergman School District with distinction from 1971 until his retirement in 1999. As the head bus driver and lead mechanic, he ensured the safe transportation of countless students, driving them to and from school, on field trips, and to various sporting events over nearly three decades. His work went beyond routine duties; he was a figure of reliability and care within the community he served.
A man of many talents, Harold was known as a jack of all trades and a master of all. His passion for restoring cars and working on motors was well known, including his unique motor mailbox. Beyond his mechanical expertise, he found joy in camping and riding motorcycles, pursuits that underscored his adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors.
One of Harold’s proudest accomplishments was his marriage to Helen Lou Cook, the love of his life. The couple celebrated 61 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring partnership and mutual devotion. Together, they shared a faith that guided their lives deeply. Harold expressed his philosophy simply: "Enjoy life and serve the Lord."
Music was another pillar of Harold’s life. For over 40 years, he played guitar at Lonestar Faith Full Gospel Church and various other churches throughout the area, enriching the spiritual lives of many through his musical talents.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Georgia (Carlton) Garrison, and siblings Sheley Garrison, Don Garrison, Imogene Henderson, and Vergie Raby.
Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Garrison; brothers Doyal and Jim Garrison; sisters Phyllis (Sam) Taylor and Bonnie (Arnold) Ramsey; a special friend, Debra "Deputy," who was regarded as more like a daughter than a friend; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A graveside service to honor Harold’s life will take place on April 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at York Cemetery, in Bergman. Pastor Frank Whiteside and Pastor Kelly Lindsey will officiate. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers include the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Hills, Lonestar Faith Full Gospel Church, and The Cowboy Church of Huntsville.
