Obituary

Goldie Ann Johnson, 102, of Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.  She was born on May 6, 1915 in Norwood, Missouri, the daughter of James and Annis Hurtt.

Goldie is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter Herbert Johnson, two daughters Evelyn Martin and Betty Woods-Stewart; one granddaughter, Lisa Marshall; one grandson, Hace Hudson Woods; five brothers, Roy Hurtt, Virgil Hurtt, Cecil Hurtt, Orville Hurtt, and Elsie Drye; five sisters, Thelma Gooden, Altie Longley, Mable Davis, Gladys Sanders, and Evie Drye; and her parents.

Goldie is survived by two children, Clyde R. Johnson and wife Jean and Shirley Ruff and husband Wayne; ten grandchildren Harold Johnson, Doug Johnson, Duane Martin, Larry Martin, Janet Reeves, Nada Russell, Rese Woods, Tammy Espinoza, Tony Ruff, and Priscilla Ayres; twenty-three great grandchildren, and seventeen great-great grandchildren.

Walter and Goldie moved from Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to Harrison in 1955 when Walter took a job with Duncan Industries. Goldie was a master gardener providing food for her family, making her last garden at age 94.  She was known for making bread and pies and sharing them with friends and family.  Goldie was a quilter piecing together over 100 quilts.   In her early years she worked both at a chicken plant in Mammoth Spring and making pies for a local restaurant.   She was the very first employee of Johnson Manufacturing. Goldie has been a faithful Christian all her life and was a member of Northside church of Christ in Harrison.  Goldie was often quoted as saying, "you are only as old as you act and think."

Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Northside Church of Christ in Harrison with David Stewart and Cub Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 PM at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.

Pallbearers are Harold Johnson, Doug Johnson, Larry Martin, Rese Woods, Tony Ruff, and Ronnie Greer.

Honorary pallbearers include the Golden Years Class from Northside Church of Christ and her Special Caregivers, Teri Bass, Sandy and Rick Anderson and Bonnie and Ronnie Paul.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Northside Church of Christ Golden Years Class.
