Gladys Hale (Arnold) Hughes, 87, of Harrison, Arkansas fell asleep in death on April, 30, 2016.
She was born in Harrison, Arkansas on February 2, 1929, daughter of Joseph Benjamin and Sara Ellen (Jones) Arnold.
She married Austin Hughes on September 9, 1944, whose family had moved to the Harrison area from Waynesville, Missouri in 1941.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Austin, in January 2000; her only brother, Joseph Blaine Arnold and his wife Betty Ruth (Criner) Arnold; a nephew, Jay Arnold; a niece, Sue Nolen; and a great nephew, Glen Arnold, all of Harrison, Arkansas.
She is survived by two nephews, John D. and Joe B. (Jody) Arnold; one niece, Beverly Nolen and husband Jack, 3 great nephews, J.B. Arnold, Jason Nolen and Michael Nolen; 2 great nieces, Jennifer Arnold and Stephanie McGarity; and several great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a nephew by marriage, Ted Hughes and wife Leslie, of Holt's Summit, Missouri.
Gladys worked 42 years for Oberman-Levi Strauss Co., in Harrison, retiring in 1991. She had been one of Jehovah's Witnesses for over 60 years. Gladys was a friend to any living creature and loved them all.
Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Coffman Chapel in Harrison from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, with graveside service immediately following at Arnold Cemetery, on Evergreen Road in Harrison. Graveside service will be officiated by Minister Joe Sain.
