Gerald F. "Jerry" Ellis, 83, died Saturday October 6th in the care of Hospice of
the Hills in Harrison.
He was born on July 11, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Jack and Hazel
Ellis.
He enlisted in the US Army on August 31,1948 where he was a decorated war veteran serving two tours in Vietnam. Among his numerous decorations are; two
Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with 1st Oak leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with 3rd Oak Leaf Cluster. Retiring from the US Army in 1978 after 30 years of service as a Command Sergeant Major, he and his family settled
in Harrison.
At the age of fifty he started college at North Arkansas Community College. He
graduated with high honors, achieving two Associate degrees. He continued on with North Arkansas Community College to teach and tutor.
In retirement he was an avid golfer. His greatest day of golf was on August 5, 1992, on hole 17 of the Harrison Country Club golf course, when he received his
Hole-In-One certificate.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna (Silver) Ellis; his son, William F. Ellis; his daughter, Sharon Ellis-Champagne; a son-in-law, Jeff Champagne; and
one brother, Robert Ellis.
Cremation and arrangements are by Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison.
