Obituary

George F. "Frank" Polk, passed away March 24, 2012 at home surrounded by family.

Frank was born January 8, 1930 in Walterboro, South Carolina to Jerome E. and Lottie Mae (Colson) Polk.

Frank joined the USAF right after graduation in June 1947. He became a navigator on the Spys planes for the Strategic Air Command in the 1950's and 1960's.

He met Barbara F. "Bobbie" Blair, while serving in the Air Force in March 1954 and they were married six weeks later and remained so until her death.

In 2003, after 49 years together, Frank retired in 1967 from the USAF and they settled in Diamond City and Lead Hill areas where he became active in the Lead Hill School Board for many years. He was Branch Manager of First National Bank (nka Bank of America) in Diamond City for years. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Besides his wife, his parents and siblings preceded him in death.

He is survived by daughters, Lee Ann Lane (Andy) of Lead Hill, Carolyn Harp (Jim) of Harrison, Betty Polk of Lead Hill; a son, Kenneth Polk of Kuwait; grandchildren, Duster Lane, Tropha Lane, Zachary, Jasmine, Tristen, and Grayson Polk; one great-grandchild, Marlee; and a special daughter-in-law, Misty Preston Polk Thompson.

Cremation and arrangements are being handled by Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.

As per his request there will be no services.
