Obituary

George W. Brown passed away July 23, 2016. He was born in Ipswich MA, December 5, 1924, son of James W. Brown and Nora (O'Callaghan) Brown. He lived on the Proctor Estate in Ipswich MA with his parents and siblings before graduating from Ipswich High School in 1943. Shortly after graduation he joined the Army Air Corps and became an Airplane Armorer (waist) Gunner on the B-17 "One More Time". As a member of the 493rd Bomb Group, 860th Squadron stationed in England, they flew four missions over Berlin. He was honorably discharged from the 8th Air Force with the rank of Sargent in 1946 and was authorized to wear the World War ll Victory medal, American Theater ribbon, two battle stars, EAME Theater ribbon, Good Conduct medal and the Northern France Central Europe ribbon.

In 1951, he married Elinor Sullivan of Newburyport whom he met when they both worked for New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. They made their home in Newburyport MA and had one child in 1956, Joanne Brown. George retired from N.E. Tel in 1985 after 38 years. In 1999 his beloved wife, Elinor, passed away after 48 years of marriage.

George leaves his present wife, Madeleine (Descoteau) Brown born in Nashua NH, whom he married in 2001. After Madeleine entered into assisted living, George moved in with his daughter Joanne and her husband Sanford Rines in May of 2015.

George leaves his brother Norman Brown and wife Dolores Brown of Danvers MA, his sister Norma York of Beverly MA and her longtime friend Bob Kinney.

He will be missed by his granddaughter, Danielle Simard of Somerville MA, who was the apple of his eye. He loved spending time with her and watching her grow from a baby to a fine young lady. He was always pulling his wallet out and showing her picture to everyone. He was very proud of her.

He will also be missed by his lifelong friends, neighbors in Newburyport and new friends in Marshall, Arkansas. In November of 2015 he moved with his daughter, Joanne, and his son-in-law, Sanford, to Marshall Arkansas. He would quite often say "we are living on top of the world" because of the view. He settled in quickly and enjoyed having the cat, dogs and horses around for 8 months. He developed pneumonia and 4 days later passed away quickly at the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison Arkansas.

Funeral service arrangements will be made at a later date.
