Obituary

Frances June (Caudle) McDaniel, 85, of Jasper, Arkansas, passed away June 11, 2018, at her home on Mt. Sherman, in Newton County, Arkansas. Frances is preceeded in death by her husband, Bob McDaniel, her sister, Joanna Caudle Grow, and her parents, Luther and Zella (Fields) Caudle. Frances is survived by her 6 adult children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Frances was born on June 15, 1932, in Mansfield, Arkansas. She graduated from Fort Smith High School (now Northside High School) in 1950. She attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, in 1951.
Bob and Frances met at Goddard United Methodist Church in Forth Smith, Arkansas, when Bob was the Minister of Music and Frances was a member of the youth choir. They began dating in 1952, and married April 21, 1956. She has always described that date as the happiest day of her life, followed by the six also happiest days on which each of her six children was born.
In the early 1970's, Frances set up and managed a 3-year-old preschool program while the family was living in Fort Smith. In 1974, seeking a quieter life for themselves and their family, Bob and Frances brought all six children and made their home in Jasper, Arkansas, purchasing The Cliff House Gift Shop & Motel, adding a restaurant with spectacular views in 1976, and continues operation today.
In 1980, Bob and Frances sold The Cliff House and purchased Sweet Surrender Ice Cream Parlour in Breckenridge, Colorado. Bob and Frances retired from business ownership in 1986. They spent the next 18 years living in beautiful locations throughout the American west, helping where they were needed in their childrens' businesses. Bob and Frances moved back to Jasper on Bob's 80th birthday in 2004 to enjoy the rest of their lives together in a location dear to their hearts. The family attended Jasper United Methodist Church throughout the 1970's, and renewed their participation at Jasper UMC when they moved back to Jasper in 2004.
Frances was loved by many in Jasper for her fiestiness and genuine compassion for people in her life. Her heart truly was planted at Jasper UMC, where the membership comprised her closest and dearest friends. After Bob passed away in 2010, Frances decided to send birthday cards to everyone in her life, making sure everyone received a card on their special day. Frances, when physically able, made weekly trips to visit the Newton County Nursing Home. Her visits were to help make the residents there feel special.
A memorial service will be held at Jasper United Methodist Church at 11am Saturday, June 16, 2018. Lunch will be provided after the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Jasper United Methodist Church.
