Obituary

Frances L. (Johnson) Carlton, age 78, was reunited with her oldest son on November 30, 2017 and 10:30 A.M. at her home.  She was born on July 14, 1939 to Charles and Jessie Johnson in Carrollton, Missouri.

She married John R. Carlton on December 8, 1956.  They moved to Pittsburg, Kansas in 1972 and in 1975 they moved to their present home in Opolis, Kansas.  She started working at Ace Forms in 1976 and took medical retirement in 1990.  She loved to cook and planned many church and family dinners.  At Christmas time her children would gather to help her make French cookies, pumpkin rolls, Russian tea cakes and hard candy, which she would then give away for Christmas gifts.  She also loved to can and fill the freezer with the bounty of their garden.  She enjoyed her flower gardens and working jigsaw puzzles.

She was founding charter member of Elm Grove Baptist Church near Bonner Springs, Kansas.  Then after moving to Pittsburg she was a founding charter member of Crossroads Baptist Church near Girard, Kansas.

She is survived by her husband John of the home, and her five children, Kathy (Hap) Adkins of Dover, Arkansas, Sue Carlton of Pittsburg, Carol (Jerry) Sharp of Springfield, Missouri, Geneva (Jerry) Brady Of Pittsburg, and Charlie (Gina) Carlton of Pittsburg.  Also, one granddaughter, Heather Grigsby of Lowell, Arkansas who was raised in the home.  Additional survivors are 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.  Two special great grandchildren John and Allie Grigsby spent many happy days at her house.  She is also survived by two brothers, Earl (Minnie) Johnson and Junior Johnson, also two cousins that was raised in her parents' home, Edward Johnson and Jane Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jimmie, Charles and Don.  She was also preceded in death by her son John R. Carlton Jr. in 1988.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday December 2, 2017 at the Mossville Church in Mossville, Arkansas with Brother Harold McConnell and Brother Billy Paul officiating.  Burial will take place at the Mossville Cemetery following the services.  Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Tim Lynch, Trenton Carlton, Anthony McCutcheon, Alex McCutcheon, Jim Carlton, and Chris Carlton.
