Obituary

Clara "Evelyn" Farmer, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Hillcrest Nursing Home at the age of 90.

She was born April 13, 1932 in Parkin, Arkansas to Charles Jesse "Arthur" Thorn and Mattie "Jimmie" (Taylor) Thorn.  She graduated from Mountain Home High School.  Evelyn moved to Boone County after she married the love of her life, John "Fred" Farmer on August 22, 1959.  They first met on a blind date at a basketball game.

She has been a member of the Church of Christ since she was 13 and a member of the Highway Church of Christ congregation for over 40 years.

Evelyn enjoyed gardening, canning and quilting.  She loved to raise and sell rabbits. She was a loving caregiver for her family, raising all 8 of her children and most of her grandkids. She was a model Christian, always patient, kind, and generous.  All were welcome in her home, and she wanted to help whenever she could.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved to spoil Fred, never fixing a meal he didn't like.  She was always optimistic and never complained.  She never met a stranger, and she was loved by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Jared Moore; a son-in-law, Richard Chaney; and 8 siblings, Jesse Rice, C.C. Thorne, Carl Thorne, Ruby Bell, Buelos Thorne, Paul Thorne, William Thorne, and Harold Thorne.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 63 years; John "Fred" Farmer; 8 children, Sharon Chaney, Katherine Tyler (Steven), Glenn Farmer (Michelle), Freda Trowbridge (Eddie), Marlene Moore (Richard), Greg Farmer (Tina), Velma Snowden (Jeff), and Minta DeVore (Troy); a brother, Dale Thorne (Charlene); sister-in-law, Helen Tilton; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer, Rick, Jonathan, Lacy, Glenna, Samantha, Eric, Tori, Grant, Brett, Kourtnie, Cami, Jonna, Emily, and Noah; 20 great grandchildren; and a host of extended relatives and dear friends.

Funeral service will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Highway Church of Christ with Jimmie C. Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM at the church.

Pallbearers are grandsons.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Hillcrest Home for the loving care provided to Evelyn for the past two and a half years.
