We are announcing the passing of Ernest David Thiel Jr. He was affectionately known as "Ed" to his friends. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. When he returned stateside, he continued his education receiving Degrees from American University and an Advanced Degree from Clemson University. He dedicated his professional life to education and eventually retired to Harrison, Arkansas where he passed peacefully on August 4, 2025.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Anne Thiel, his late wife Jane Thiel, and many close friends.

He is survived by his two sons, Ernest David Thiel III and wife, Kathryn and Bradley Dean Thiel and wife, Tracey; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; as well as two brothers, Bruce and Nick Thiel.

Throughout his life he had many hobbies that kept him busy. He was an avid collector of antiques, firearms and especially buying and selling golf equipment. He loved the thrill of the "deal", casino trips and sharing a laugh with friends.

His passion for the game of golf was unmatched and he embraced all who shared the game with him. As a devoted member of Harrison CC, he served on the Board of Directors for six years and various other committees. He participated in various golfing groups and made quality friends as a result. His closest friends at the club gave him colorful nicknames that described his game. His golf course antics and legendary stories will survive us all. He later pursued his love for singing and would take the stage at karaoke to sing old country songs and ballads.

He will be missed.

A Celebration of Ed's Life will be on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at the Harrison Country Club from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
