Elliott Mathis Smith, age 100, passed away October 6, 2024, at his home in Jasper, AR. Elliott was born March 21, 1924, in Central Academy, MS to Frank Elliott and Ethel Branch Smith.  He was the oldest of 13 siblings.

He is survived by three children, Linda (Ron) Crawford of Jasper, AR; Rebecca (Cliff) Johnson of Jefferson City, MO; and Elliott Mathis Smith, Jr. (Marie) of Corpus Christi, TX; his grandchildren, Audra Crawford, Rachael Crawford, Kristin Craig, Branson Smith, Candace Smith, and honorary grandchild, Hannah Smith; 2 great-grandchildren; and his step-daughters, Lisa Basaldua, Jeanne Cantu, and Deena Rothwell.

Elliott was a proud World War II Navy veteran.  He served as a gunner on the USS Latimer during the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines and at Okinawa.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, October 11, 2024, at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper. Burial will follow in Jasper Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Friday, before the service.
