Elbert W.(Poppy) Cochran, age 88, of Harrison, Arkansas, departed the trials of this life to join his wife and daughter at the feet of his Loving Savior, on Wednesday, September 30, 2009.
He was born in Olvey, Arkansas, on September 5, 1921 to Grover Cleveland and Gertrude Pope Cochran. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard protecting the coastline during World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was an avid Bible scholar and dairy farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jessie Lair Cochran on August 17, 2009. One daughter, Theresa Diana Woodell and her husband Howard Woodell, and a son-in-law, William Brasel also preceded him in death along with several brothers and one sister.
Surviving him are two daughters, Sandra Brasel of Harrison, and Cheryl Cochran Wilson and her husband John of El Dorado. Also surviving are two sisters Ester and Bill Adams and Faye and Edward Laskey of California; three brothers, Horace and Lynn Cochran and Andy Cochran of California and Jack Cochran of Washington; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of friends and family.
Poppy will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Bellefonte Cemetery in Harrison at 4:00p.m. Friday, October 2, 2009.
