Elbert James "Al" Bellamy, age 73 of Mt. Sherman, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Harrison, Arkansas.
He was born March 1, 1937 near the small town of Latham, Moniteau County, Missouri, a son of Orvel and Eula Fern (Decker) Bellamy.
He was proud of his Native American Heritage, being from the Cherokee Tribe.
He had retired from John Deere and Company in Kansas City, Missouri and had moved to Newton County 15 years ago.
Al was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1957 to 1961.
He was a member of several clubs and organizations when he lived at Blue Springs, MO and in Newton County he was a board member of the Mt. Sherman Volunteer Fire Department; Mt. Sherman Water Association; Newton County Resource Council and Photography and Nature Club. He was named Outstanding Young Man of America.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Curtis Bellamy and a sister, Bonnie Louise (Bellamy) Zink.
Survivors are his wife, Pamela Sue (McCarty) Bellamy of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrel and Wanda Bellamy of Pleasant Hill, MO and Roy and Mary Bellamy of Lees Summit, MO; two sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Bill Dooley of Harrisonville, MO and Betty and Cliff McKinnis of Lees Summit, MO and several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m.- 2 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper with graveside services following at the Mt. Sherman Cemetery with Robert Francis officiating. Burial in the Mt. Sherman Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Simmons, Rick Simmons, Everett Simmons, Tyrel Simmons, James Laughter and Darren Bellamy. Honorary pallbearer is Jeff Dooley.
