Obituary

Edward Adrian "Punk" Hand, age 70 passed away July 2, 2014 at his home in Harrison, Arkansas where he had been a resident since November 2002.

He was born June 6, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa the son of the late Edward F. Hand and Maxine E. Zippe.

In his younger years Ed attended St. John's grade school and served as an altar boy at St. John's Catholic Church. Ed enjoyed going to the "Spiderweb", a place for "American Bandstand" style dances as a teen. His passion for race car driving placed him as one of the top drivers at the "34 raceway". Along with his brother Steve, Don Charboneau and Richard Coontz they built the "X-100" stock car. Over his life Ed had many hobbies such as drawing, working on model cars and airplanes, leather works, making his own ammo, hunting, fishing, boating, and going to the races. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and he will be remembered as being very talented and creative and able to build anything. He was an outstanding marksman, driver, fabricator, mechanic, and operator.

Ed owned and operated the Shell gas station in Oakville, he drove a semi-truck for several years, and then he became a River Pilot on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. Ed was a IUOE Local 150 Operator. After retirement he enjoyed watching Nascar racing, playing on his computer, and watching his grandchildren grow and enjoy all the fun things in life. He was called on almost daily to be the family chauffer which he loved doing. His great-grandchildren will always remember his as "Papa Hand", the grandpa they knew they could always to for candy and treats.

He will be missed greatly by his three daughters, Chris (Gene) Sullivan, Dana (David) Ecklund and Brenda (Mike) Misenheimer, all residents of Arkansas. His 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, and of course, his little Min-Pin dog, Spikey.

Other family survivors include his step-mother, Barbara Hand of Burlington, Iowa; brothers, Steve (Virleen) Hand of Galena, California, Bob (Sally) Hand of LeClaire, Iowa, John (Carmen) Hand, and Jim (Gayle) Howard; sisters, Susan Carper, Becky (Mike Heiniger) Stephens, Linda (William) Ells, Sandy (Jack) Steele all of Burlington, Iowa, Sally (Paul) Miller of West Burlington, Iowa and Julie (Steve) Conrad of Yarmouth, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers you may give toward a memorial bench in his honor. The placement location near the river will be determined in the near future. Mail to: P.O. Box 1092, Harrison, Arkansas 72602 or you may contribute at the service.
