Edith "Mae" Greenhaw, age 86 of St. Joe, AR died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Hospice House in Mountain Home, AR.
Mae had a strong passion for living life. She was a woman of action. When she saw something that needed to be done, she would find a way to do it. Her life was characterized by putting faith, hope, and charity to work. She enjoyed the simple things in life - a gentle rainfall, spring flowers, tall grass in her field sweeping in waves with the wind.
She was born February 12, 1922 at St. Joe, AR, the daughter of the late Frank and Dortha (Scott) Wall. She was a homemaker and had lived all her life in Searcy County, except for the last several months when she required private care. Her husband, William Henry "Buck" Greenhaw, whom she married on March 24, 1956 near St. Joe, preceded her in death. Although they had no children of their own, they helped with the raising of nieces and nephews, especially the children of her sister Reba Hunter after the untimely death of their father.
Also preceding her in death were sisters, Reba Hunter, Elsie Wyatt, Emogene Cash, and Shirley McInturff.
She is survived by a sister, Frankie Skinner of Livermore, CA. Surviving cousins with whom she grew up and had especially close relationships are Laverne Wall Strahan, Ralph Wall, and Opal Scott McMurrin.
Funeral service with Quintin Brakebill and nephew, Gary Hunter officiating, was Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at St. Joe First Baptist Church with visitation preceding the service. Burial followed in Love Cemetery at St. Joe.
