Obituary

Edith Melvina House Boling, age 98, formerly of Red Bud, Illinois, born in Low Gap, Arkansas on March 20, 1921, the 3 rd of 5 children of Delhi and Lewis House, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 surrounded by family and loving care providers. She was a 2-time cancer survivor of 50 plus years.

She was the first in her community to graduate from high school and then become a teacher who taught in a one room school house. She was described by many as the most loving person they ever knew. She radiated joy and offered hope and encouragement to others. She knew no enemies.

She was raised in the Pentecostal church and practices its' principles all her life.

She was blessed with an abundance of common sense. She lived on the positive bias of life and refused to entertain the negative side. Her laughter was spontaneous, responsive and contagious.

She was an avid cook, gardener, seamstress and home provider.

It was difficult to beat her at marbles, jacks, croquet, baseball, dominoes, Rummikub and/or fishing. She was also an excellent marksman. Her creations of varnished tree knots and polished rocks are treasures, as are the memories of her perfect pecan pies with pecans from trees she planted or the peach and apple cobblers also from trees in the orchard she and Doyle planted.

When asked how she wanted to be remembered, she said simply, "as good". No worries about that!

She was married to James Doyle Boling on March 22, 1942, in Jasper, Arkansas. The minister was Cain Boling, her future father-in-law. Edith and Doyle had four children, Anita Ann Boling Alka, Jimmie Ranetta Boling Adams, John David Boling (deceased) and Rita Kay Boling. There are 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
