Drena Ewing, age 97, of Western Grove, Arkansas, passed away on February 8, 2025, at Hospice of the Hills in Harrison, Arkansas.

Drena was born on October 1, 1927, to Earnest and Rentha Waters Baughman on a farm near Hasty, Arkansas. In 1945, she graduated from Western Grove High School. After passing her teacher's exam, she began teaching at Coppers Bluff School in Big Creek Valley, Newton County. She married Ford Ewing in June 1946. Together, they built a home and farm on Big Creek, where they raised four children. Drena worked as a schoolteacher, garment factory employee, and a teacher's assistant. Drena was a gifted homemaker who enjoyed tending to her garden and raising chickens. She always made sure her family was well cared for.

In 2000, Drena and her husband moved to Western Grove. She enjoyed crocheting and made numerous doilies and quilts that her loved ones will cherish forever. She was excellent at puzzles, crosswords, word searches, and checkers. An avid reader, she found comfort in scripture. She attended the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, James Ewing, her sisters, Vida and Vivian; her brothers, Thomas and Johnny; and two infant siblings.

Drena is survived by her sons, Wayne Ewing and wife Karen, of Western Grove, AR, and Lonnie Ewing and wife Theresa of Fayetteville, AR; her daughter, Janet Sutterfield and husband Dennis of Springdale, AR; six grandchildren, David Ewing and wife Melanie, Matthew Ewing, Jon Ewing, Sarah Caudle and husband Daniel, Kristen Hampton, and Allison Ewing; and nine great grandchildren, Kendra Ewing, Christian Ewing, Derek Ewing, Kamrie Ewing, Peyton Hampton, Paxton Hampton, Parker Hampton, Luke Caudle, and Norah Caudle.

Drena spent most of her life caring for others. Her legacy of quiet strength and selflessness will live on.

The visitation and funeral will be held on Friday, February 14 (2025) at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 PM, with the service immediately following at 2 PM. Kelly Woods will officiate. Burial will follow at Essex Cemetery (Crossroads) near Deer, Arkansas under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are David Ewing, Matthew Ewing, Jon Ewing, Christian Ewing, Peyton Hampton, and Luke Caudle. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Caudle, Paxton Hampton, Parker Hampton, and Derek Ewing.
