Dorothy "Dottie" Emily Spencer Payne, age 97 of Diamond City, Arkansas passed away Friday, September 18, 2015.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Diamond City on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Service will begin at 11:00 am. Rev. Don Rose and Rev. Don Reichers will be officiating.
Dottie was born in Williamson County, Texas on August 16, 1918 to James Theodore and Lillie Bessie (Stanford) Spencer. She was the fourth out of five children, all of whom preceded her in death. Dottie attended Nixon-Clay Business College in Austin, Texas. She worked for Montgomery Wards for 33 years as a bookkeeper.
Dottie retired with her husband, Cecil Lemoyne Payne, to Spicewood, Texas, where she was a water meter reader and billing clerk for the community. She worked as a volunteer for numerous charitable organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and past worthy matron of the Capitol Chapter in Austin, Texas. She was also an active member of the first Baptist Church in Marble Falls, Texas and Diamond City, Arkansas.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Ann Brumley of Diamond City, Arkansas; a step-daughter, Jan Appleby and husband Don of Tomball, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron Payne and wife Sarah, Lisa Stone and husband Van, Robyn Wood and husband Charles and Dale Appleby and wife Lori; 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by Cecil Lemoyne Payne, her husband of 26 years, and Arden "Ard" Kish, her late life companion.
A private interment will be held at Milum Cemetery in Lead Hill, Arkansas.
