Obituary

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024 the world lost a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, but heaven gained a precious angel.  Dorothy Geneva Vick, age 86, passed away peacefully at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Arkansas with her husband of 60 years by her side, holding her hand.  We can only imagine the emotional reunion she had with her loved ones and the Lord as she slipped the bonds of earth.

Dorothy was born on April 30, 1938 in the small, country town of Hatfield, Arkansas to Edith Dorthula Reid.  Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32. She was raised by a humble family, who although they didn't have much money, they had a wealth of love and support. She loved to sing and as a young woman, she and her Aunt Nellie were invited to sing at many revivals in the area of Polk County.  Word spread fast about these beautiful voices that could lift gospel hymns to the rafters.

She married the love of her life, Leonard M. Vick on June 13,1964 in Harrison, Arkansas and they promptly spent their honeymoon working on a race car.  Leonard brought to the marriage two daughters, Venita and Kathy, whom she raised and loved as her own.  Her faith in God and our Lord Jesus Christ was most important to her and she was the near perfect representative of what a Godly woman should be.  She loved all types of flowers and plants and could grow anything.  She also loved to cook when her health allowed it as well as spoiling her small dog, Duke, who was her constant companion. She worked briefly as a nursing assistant in a local nursing home and absolutely loved it, but her true life's work was as a housewife, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her son, Leonard Vick, Jr.; her brother, MacArthur Martin; her sister, Judy Martin; her son-in-law, Jerry Scott Davis; and her beloved grandson, Timmy Waggoner.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Leonard Vick; daughters, Venita Davis, Kathy Waggoner, Nora Case, and Christene (David) Ashlock; grandchildren, Scott Davis, Melissa (Billy) Dyer, Elizabeth Waggoner, Jeffrey Ashlock, Hannah (Chase) Abel, Kim Vick, Doyle Case, Nicole Case, and Nathan Case; and five great grandchildren.
