Dennis Ray Shatwell, age 76, of Vendor, Arkansas, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

The son of Talmage and Ethel (Martin) Shatwell was born January 25, 1950 at Red Rock, Arkansas. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County.

Dennis loved living on Big Creek. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeler riding and his dogs. He was quite a character, and he loved to cut up and give folks a hard time. He loved his “beans and taters” and watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke.

Family meant everything to Dennis. He loved his family and his nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Shatwell.

Dennis is survived by his brother, Bill Shatwell, Sr., and sister-in-law, Evelyn Shatwell; his nieces and nephews, Billy Shatwell, Jr. (Amy), Patricia Shatwell, Melinda Evans, and Tim Shatwell; several great nieces and great nephews; his close friends, Mike O'Neal, Howard Criner, and Junior Martin; and a host other special friends too numerous to mention.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 6 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper. Funeral service will be at 2 PM on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper with Bro. Anthony Bower officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery at Vendor.

Pallbearers are Jacob Shatwell, Tim Shatwell, Dylan Dye, Jesse Royce, Justin Royce, and Chad Moore.

Honorary Pallbearers are Austin Evans and Gage Evans. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper or Harrison to help defray final expenses.
