Obituary

Dennis Wayne Brasel, 91, passed away peacefully from this life on June 22, 2025, at Jasper, Arkansas, Newton County, where he was born on March 15, 1934, to Doy and Oza Mae (Carter) Brasel.

Dennis attended school in Jasper until his senior year, when he joined the United States Air Force in 1953, serving for four years during the Korean War.  He was an aircraft mechanic.  He finished high school in Keflavik, Iceland, in 1955.  After returning to Newton County in 1957, he went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service Division, on the Ozark St. Francis National Forest, Buffalo Ranger District, for 32 years.  He was registered in timber sales contracting, timber management, and was a registered land surveyor on this job for 22 years, along with a lot of other jobs on the Buffalo.

Dennis was a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge No. 21 F & AM for over 50 years.

Dennis loved the Lord, his church, all his family, his church family, and all his many good friends.  He loved to go to deer camp years ago with his son, Dad, and all that was at the camp.  He loved to catch Rainbow Trout in the streams and lakes in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  He will truly be missed by all who loved, knew, and enjoyed his dry sense of humor.

Dennis is survived by his wife Lura Jean (Pierce) Brasel of 66 years and 9 days, his son James Paul and his wife Shelly Brasel, 3 grandchildren, Chelsea Dee Jean Brasel, Holden Dean and wife Lexus Brasel, and Lauryn Deshae and husband Lane Houston, 2 great grandsons, Joshua Dean Brasel and Benaiah James Houston, 1 great granddaughter April Ledford, his sister, Cynthia Faye Monday, 7 nephews, 3 nieces, and many dear friends and loved ones.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Buddy Brasel, one sister, Ruby (Brasel) Hamilton, two nephews, one niece, his daughter-in-law, Deanna (Wilson) Brasel, and many other family members and friends.
