IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delmar "Shorty"
Martin
March 17, 1925 – May 31, 2021
Delmar "Shorty" Martin, of Bellefonte, Arkansas departed this life to his Eternal Life with Jesus at home on May 31, 2021 at the age of 96.
Delmar was born March 17, 1925 to the late John H. and Alabam "Bam" Martin.
Delmar retired from Arkansas power and light company in 1980 as a meter reader. After retiring from AP&L, Delmar enjoyed his farm and raised cattle until December 2009. At this time, he gave up his farm and cattle to take care of Norma, his wife of 63 years until her passing in May 2011. His character and integrity will long be remembered by those who mourn his passing.
As a young man, Delmar enjoyed baseball, bowling, fishing, and hunting. He served on the Bellefonte City Council for 10 years. Of all his accomplishments in life, he would put at the top, his love for God and family, his personal baptism in the creek on his farm, and his daily devotion to reading God's word, of which he wore out several Bibles through the years.
Delmar was blessed with caregivers, James and Renea Hickman, who stayed in his home the past few months to make sure he peacefully transitioned to his eternal home. He often referred to them as his children and they affectionately called him Dad.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Norma McElroy Martin, two sisters, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.
He is survived by one brother, Delbert of Harrison, along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 1 PM on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison and the funeral service will immediately follow at 2 PM at the funeral home. Services will be officiated by Rev. Donald Curtis, Rev. Kevin Cox and Rev. Michael Phillips. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are David Brown, Andrew Cox, Randy Kimes, Jim Kimes, Jim Phillips and Michael Phillips.
Honorary pallbearers are James and Renea Hickman and Carl and Kathy Smith.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of his caregivers and a special thank you to Veronica (Roni) Barnard for the extra care she has given.
