Obituary

Delbert McFarlan, age 72 of Harrison, Arkansas passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at his home.

The son of Andrew and Eva (Hembrey) McFarlan was born December 11, 1938 at Valley Springs, Arkansas.

Delbert worked for the city of Harrison, first for the water department and later with the street department where he became street superintendent. In 1991 Delbert bought farmland and realized his dream of becoming a chicken farmer.

Delbert enjoyed all things outdoors, rather it be the roar of his John Deere tractor, the churning of his garden tiller, the sound of beagles hot on the trail of a rabbit in the bottoms of the Buffalo River, the quiet footsteps of a whitetail buck approaching his tree stand somewhere in the Ozark National Forest or the thundering gobble of a turkey strutting toward his call in a green grassy pasture.

A man of few words, Delbert let his actions speak for him in the way he loved his family, and his devotion to any task that needed finished, and the rock solid belief he had in himself and his decision making.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Walter, Melvin, Willard, Bill and Albert McFarlan.

His loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Betty Lee (Harrell) McFarlan of the home survives him. Surviving sons: Steven Dale McFarlan and wife Melinda Darnell McFarlan of Harrison, and Kevin Lee McFarlan of Harrison; grandchildren: Thomas Steven McFarlan, Mariah Elaine McFarlan, and Stephanie Jade McFarlan; Sisters: Dorothy Coley of Gassville, Lorene Watts of Marshall, Juanita Yancey of Harrison and Norma Jean Preston of Cookeville, TN; brother, Charles McFarlan; along with many other family and friends.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison, AR. with Rev. Kenneth Crow officiating. Burial will follow in Western Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steven McFarlan, Kevin McFarlan, Thomas McFarlan, Mike McFarlan, James McFarlan and Heath McFarlan.

Honorary pallbearers are Donald Watts, Craig Watts, Larry Gray, David Copeland and Dr. Sam Scroggins.
