IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Walter
Grant
October 18, 1935 – June 13, 2021
David Walter Grant, age 85 of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at home in Harrison.
David was born at home in the Ballard District of Seattle, Washington on the evening of October 18, 1935. The presiding physician pronounced him to be "a healthy 10 pounder," and close family friend (and later founder of Ping Manufacturing and Golf) Karsten Solheim went to the store for celebratory ice cream.
David grew up in the Seattle area, attending Lincoln High School. He also took private saxophone lessons from a member of John Phillip Sousa's band. David took his GED at age 16, when his father sold his mechanic's shop and the family began traveling in evangelism throughout the West Coast. He attended classes at Bethel Bible College in Seattle whenever he was ministering in the area, but truly his preaching, singing, and saxophone playing days were rooted in daily ministry and life as the family traveled from church to church throughout the 1950's.
In the fall of 1958 David was with his family, holding a revival at Gresham Assembly of God for Pastor Nels Fast. David was immediately attracted to the Fasts' daughter, Nona, and they were engaged within 5 weeks. David and Nona were married March 13, 1959 and immediately set out on their own in evangelistic work. Their early travels took them into every state west of Nebraska.
Along the way David and Nona pastored churches in John Day, Oregon, and Ridgefield and Tacoma, Washington. In 1970 God led the Grants to move to Denver, Colorado. There they planted a new church (Faith Fellowship Church), which they pastored for more than 36 years. During that time David also played an influential role in the lives of many fellow pastors and ministers, and was known for his integrity and wise counsel.
In 2009 the Grants moved again, this time to the Harrison, Arkansas area. They continued ministry out of their home, touching many lives once again through prayer, counsel, music, worship, and teaching of the Word of God. After a brief battle with illness, David regained his health and vitality on Sunday, June 13, 2021 as he passed into the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Nona; his stillborn son, Phillip; his brother, Kenneth; and his parents, Walter and Ruth Grant.
Survivors include his three children, Steven (Cheryl) Grant, of Evans, Colorado, Sandra (Jim) Childress, of Dallas, Texas, and Stanley (Jennifer) Grant, of Cherokee Park, Colorado; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his double cousin, Fred Grant; and many other family and friends. Also surviving him is a dear family friend, Betty Dewhirst, who was instrumental in caring for David during the closing season of his life.
David's greatest desire was that his entire family and those that he knew and loved know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and to truly know that the best is yet to come!
