Columbus Smith, age 91 of Vendor, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Arkansas.
The son of Jerry M. and Sarah Ann (Burdine) Smith, he was born January 1, 1917 at Vendor.
He was a self-employed carpenter and a farmer. He enjoyed raising a big garden, going to Bluegrass Festivals, and visiting with his grandchildren.
Columbus was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; and one sister.
Survivors are his wife of 69 years, Lucille (Norton) Smith of the home; one son and his wife, Glen and Vivian Smith of Vendor; one daughter and her husband, Verdell and Alton Campbell of Jasper; one sister, Ava O'Neal of Harrison; six grandchildren, Theresa and Lonnie Ewing, Randy and Sherry Campbell, Gary and Shelly Smith, Kim and Sam Dye, Darren Campbell, and Kellie and Ricky Davis; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Visitation was Friday, September 19, 2008 at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper. Services were Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rex Middleton and Rev. Troy Walker officiating. Burial was in Smith Cemetery with pallbearers being W.H. Smith, Porter Smith, Edward Smith, Jerry Smith, Denver Smith, and Carl Smith. Honorary pallbearers are William Burdine, Charles Flood, R.L. Burdine, Charles Burdine, and care-giver, Robin Reynolds.
