Colonel Kenneth Mullins, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, at the age of 79.
The son of Robert and Manda (Davidson) Mullins was born March 5, 1937 at Spokane, Missouri.
Colonel and his family moved to Arkansas at age 6, and he attended and graduated Western Grove High School in 1956. While in high school, he began a military career that would span over 26 years, with enlistments in the Army Reserve, National Guard and the US Army, where he served during Desert Storm as a field medic. He retired from the Army at the rank of Sergeant.
Throughout his life, Colonel wore many hats, he played in a band, playing the bass guitar, he was a truck driver, a foreman at Flexsteel, taught woodworking at Twin Lakes Vo-Tech and competed in rodeo events. During all of this, he was always running a farm and working with cattle. He was a member of Northvale Baptist Church.
Colonel was instrumental in property and housing development in Western Grove, and had owned and renovated several of the buildings in the old downtown area.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be remembered as a hard worker and loyal friend, who would help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Woodrow, Cameron and Doyle and 3 sisters, Elsie, Viola and Glenda.
Colonel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Mullins of the home, two sons, Cam Mullins and wife, Deanna of Harrison; and Tim Mullins and wife, Courtney Dawn of Western Grove; 3 sisters, Cleta Boone of Beaver, UT, Theda Kay Burgess of Oliver Springs, TN and Roberta Dye of Nixa, MO; 6 grandchildren, Courtaney and wife Mandy, Kasen, Kayla, Ashley, T.J. and Holly, 4 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, Logan and Ryder, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Northvale Baptist Church with Bro. Byron Cothran officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 pm at Coffman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jamin Martin, Austin Phillips, Chip Burgess, Colton Burgess, Courtaney Mullins, Jim Parker, Chuck Engle, Kasen Mullins, Kayla Risley and Logan Villines.
Honorary Pallbearers are John Lethgo, Bill McDougal, Arlin Daniel, Eddie Fillingham, Karl Kelley, David Witty, Kevin Dowd, Allen Dixon, Kenny Davis, Jordan Gray, Foy Horn, Richard Chaney, Dr. Kevin Jackson, the Doctors, nurses and ICU staff of WRMC and his coffee drinking buddies.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to Hospice of the Hills, House of Hope or Northvale Baptist Church.
