Clay Edward Lair, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed from this life on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at home. He was 101 years old.
The son of Sterman Lair and Victoria Viola "Ola" (Wright) Lair was born in Harrison on January 29, 1921. He was a lifelong resident of Boone County and a member of the First Baptist Church of Harrison. He also served his country in the US Navy and was a WWII Veteran.
Clay was a dedicated businessman. Owning and operating many businesses throughout his lifetime. He was the owner of Lair Auto Supply, Lair Engine Re-building, as well as many others. He also owned and managed the Harrison Hill Apartments. He always took excellent care of his renters. Clay was known for his generosity. He was a very kind man, and never had anything bad to say about anyone.
Clay was an avid fisherman, participating in many Bass Tournaments. He was also a former member of the North Arkansas Bass Club. He loved animals. He enjoyed quail hunting, being outdoors, and anything to do with an engine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bernelle Lair; grandson, Steve Lair; two sisters, Jane Williams and Judith Speight, and a brother, Joseph Lair.
Clay is survived by his son, Harold Lair; two grandchildren, Scott Lair and wife, Dana, and Halley Lair-Stroede and husband, Donald Stroede; three great grandchildren, Graham Lair and wife, Sarah, Haven Herrmann, and Hannah Cox, and husband Nick; one great-great grandson, Walker Lair; and many extended relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison with Pastor Rob Davis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 PM – 7 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Scott Lair, Graham Lair, Nick Cox, Donald Stroede, Aaron Stroede, and Derek Clark.
