Claude Ray Murray, age 93 of Jasper, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper.
The son of John William and Amanda Jane (Taylor) Murray, he was born October 16, 1915 at Murray, Arkansas.
He was a member of the Wayton Masonic Lodge, a horse and mule trader, and had worked for the Newton County Road Department. He was of the Baptist faith and a lifetime resident of Newton County.
Claude and his wife, Freda were married on May 10, 1938 and would have celebrated 71 years of marriage in May.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Verla Curtwright; four brothers, Ode, Cecil, Arthur, and Jack Murray; three sisters, Madge Carlton, Irene Daniels, and Mae Owen.
Survivors are his wife, Freda Mae (Vaughn) Murray of Jasper; three sons, Doyal Murray of Pineville, MO, Carl Murray of Gravette, AR, and Dwight Murray of Harrison; three daughters, Leta Willis of Wayton, Charlene Dixon of Rogers, and Marshal Reddell of Harrison; one brother, Jimmy Murray of Wichita, KS; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were Friday, March 27, 2009 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper with Billy Paul Matlock officiating. Burial followed in Snow Cemetery at Wayton.
Pallbearers were Bill Dixon, Jon Reddell, Shawn Dixon, Kevin Murray, Jeff Kelly and Jason Dixon. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Kelly, Tony Murray, Wade Murray, Bill Willis and Wesley Bushnell.
