Obituary

Dr. Clair Lowell Koons, age 91 of Jasper, Arkansas passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper, Arkansas.

The son of Joseph and Nellie (Tomson) Koons was born October 4, 1919 in Homestead, Oklahoma. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and a college professor. He received his Doctorate Degree from Tulsa University in 1968. Dr. Koons was published in many professional journals and other publications. During his retirement he was active with Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and mission trips to Africa, South America, Central America, Russia and other foreign countries. He was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church and had moved to Newton County in April 2006 from Owasso, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Jean Snider Koons of 35 years and Mildred Walker Koons of 10 years; one brother, Harold Koons; two sisters, Nelda Koons and Edith Thiessen and an infant daughter.

Survivors are two sons, Bill Koons and wife, Arlene of Nevada, Missouri and Carl Koons of Warrensburg, Missouri; four daughters, Kathryn Williams and husband, Jim of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cathey Silvers and husband, Willard of Warrensburg, Missouri, Becky Schaller and husband, Jeff of Higginsville, Missouri and Wendy Lynem and husband, Walter of Columbia, Missouri; three step-sons, Chester Burgess of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael Burgess of Melbourne, Arkansas and Gary Dale Burgess of New York state; one step-daughter, Patricia Lindroth of Amarillo, Texas; one brother, Bud Koons of California; one sister, Velma Williams of Puyallup, Washington; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and numerous step- great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren.

Memorial service at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Jasper United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Acton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the charity of your choice.
