Chester T. Shumate, age 66 of Everton, Arkansas passed away Saturday August 13, 2011 at Hospice of the Hills Hospice House in Harrison, Arkansas.
The son of John B. Shumate, Sr. and Bessie (Cline) Shumate was born September 30, 1944 in Jesse, West Virginia.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, and carpentry.
His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors are his daughters, Trina Holland of Everton, Stacy Shumate of Grandbury, Texas and Cheri Shumate of Seabrook, Texas; sons, Chris Shumate of Alaska, Lonnie Shumate of New Hampshire, and John D. Shumate of Ft. Worth, Texas; brothers, Mason Shumate of West Virginia, John B. Shumate, Jr. of Texas and Thurman Shumate of Texas; sisters, Vada Mae Sharrone of West Virginia and Anna Faye Lifsey of Louisiana; former wife, Darlene Shumate of Virginia; and ten grandchildren. He is also leaving behind his best friend, Stan Houston.
Cremation and arrangements are being handled by Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.
There was a memorial service Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Western Grove Baptist Church with Jack Searcy officiating.
